Parabol, which increases its impact day by day with its innovative works for sustainable mobility , has started its works within the scope of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SKUP/SUMP) for sustainable, equitable, economic, and environmentally friendly mobility in Istanbul.
At the inauguration event of SUMP in Istanbul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, Burak Aykan from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and Gürkan Akgün, Deputy Secretary-General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, came together. Discussions during the event revolved around Istanbul's goal of becoming a climate-friendly city by 2030, sustainable mobility approaches, and mobility strategies.
Under the theme "Walking into the Future for a Livable Istanbul," the event introduced regulations aimed at reducing car usage, carbon emissions, and air pollution in central areas of the city. These regulations aim to create low-emission zones, enhance sea transportation networks, develop safe pedestrian and bicycle routes, implement "bus priority lanes," and introduce pilot projects. Over 300 Istanbul residents participated in the event.
*During his speech at the event, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu stated, "The rail system lines, bicycle and pedestrian paths, and valuable areas in our city, planned and implemented by our municipality to add value to the city, are aimed at removing vehicles from these central areas and bringing together many planned transportation investments with our people in a strategic framework. This aligns perfectly with the 'Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan,' which we are introducing today. In our project, known by its acronym SUMP, with our inclusive and equitable approach, we will work together with Istanbulites to create a livable, resilient, and carbon-free city
